Our Business and Supply Chains

Gardeners Rainham provides gardening, landscaping, and grounds maintenance services. Our operations rely on a network of suppliers and subcontractors that provide plants, materials, equipment, and various support services. We recognise that the risk of modern slavery can exist at any stage of the supply chain, particularly where there is low-skilled, seasonal, or migrant labour or where sourcing involves complex tiers of subcontracting.

We actively seek to work with suppliers and partners who share our commitment to ethical labour practices and who can demonstrate clear policies and controls against modern slavery and human trafficking.

Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery

Gardeners Rainham operates a strict zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, child labour, human trafficking, servitude, and debt bondage. We will not knowingly work with any organisation or individual that engages in, condones, or is complicit in such practices.

All employees, subcontractors, and suppliers are expected to uphold this policy. Any breach, or suspected breach, is treated as a serious matter and may result in immediate termination of contracts, removal from approved supplier lists, and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.

Supplier Standards and Audits

We are committed to improving visibility and due diligence within our supply chains. Our expectations of suppliers include compliance with all applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws, as well as adherence to our zero-tolerance stance on modern slavery.

To support this, we undertake proportionate audits and checks of key suppliers and subcontractors. These may include requests for evidence of labour policies, right to work checks, worker contracts, and grievance mechanisms, as well as site visits where appropriate. Where risks are identified, we engage with suppliers to seek corrective action within reasonable time frames or, if necessary, bring the relationship to an end.

Training and Awareness

We provide guidance and awareness-raising for relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment, and on-site supervision. Training focuses on understanding what modern slavery is, how to identify warning signs, and the actions to take when concerns arise.

We encourage all staff to maintain a questioning attitude about labour practices in our operations and supply chains, and to report any suspicion of exploitation or unethical behaviour without delay.

Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing

Gardeners Rainham is committed to creating an environment where concerns about modern slavery can be raised safely and confidentially. Employees, workers, suppliers, and other stakeholders are encouraged to report any suspicion or knowledge of modern slavery, human trafficking, or related abuses connected with our business or supply chains.

Reports can be made through internal management channels or via established whistleblowing routes within our organisation. We will not tolerate any form of victimisation or retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith, and all reports will be investigated promptly and sensitively.

Monitoring, Accountability, and Annual Review

We continue to develop and refine our processes to combat modern slavery. This includes monitoring supplier performance, reviewing the effectiveness of audits and training, and updating internal procedures where lessons are learned.

This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by the leadership of Gardeners Rainham to ensure it remains up to date, effective, and aligned with legal requirements and best practice. Revisions may also be made more frequently if significant changes occur in our operations, supply chains, or risk profile.
